If you were one of the smart ones and decided to forwarded Mr. Gate’s email tracking experiment to unsuspecting friends and family members, you may want stay at home today, as Bill and members of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation will be attempting to contact all those that assisted him. If you are contacted (via telephone or email), will with instructions on how to collect your $20,000 reward. The exact amount of your check could be much larger, depending on the number of people that you forwarded the message too.
If you didn’t send out Mr. Gate’s message and wont get $20,0000– make sure the next time somebody offers you money for sending out email messages, you DO IT!

Even if you don’t agree with the Health Care Bill that passed the House last night, you have got to be impressed that Congress actually did something. I can’t remember the last time Congress made any kind of attempt to improve the lives of anyone (and no– authorizing the war in Iraq does not count– and despite what the Supreme Court said recently, bailing out large financial institutions doesn’t count because they aren’t people).
Even though the bill doesn’t go into effect for four years, I will give them an A for effort, if nothing else. At least the Democrats came up with a plan and and actually followed through with it, instead of stalling and screaming: SOCIALISM!, while not once thinking about or attempting to come up with a plan of their own– insisting that the “Socialist” Health Care bill would rob seniors of their Medicare and Social Security (two of our country’s other “socialist” programs, that for some reason the GOP doesn’t have a problem with).
If you think that’s the end of the story, it’s not. Apparently our fair state will be joining 11 other states to sue the Federal Government, stating that requiring people to have health insurance is unconstitutional. Frankly, I hope they win….. so I can cancel my car insurance.

Massanutten is now "Bat Country". The Rockingham County Sheriffs department is looking for two men after raiding a house at Massanutten. The suspects were not apprehended and are on the run, but they left their stash behind. Police seized 12 marijuana plants, 4 pounds of weed, 1000 prescription pain pills, one ounce of cocaine, some mushrooms and two guns. If the suspects had made off with their stash, it probably would have looked somthing like this:

A local man won the Mega Millions Lottery in October, over five months ago, but didn’t cash in his ticket until Friday. Steve Williams, a carpenter and Harrisonburg resident, claims he held off claiming the money until he consulted with a lawyer and financial advisers. Williams decided to collect the cash in one lump sum. He will get 125-million dollars (before taxes), but says he will
keep his current job.

Our fair city has made national news headlines after the Harrisonburg Police officers shot and killed a bull after it escaped from Rockingham Livestock Sales. According to Police, the beast was “deranged” and foaming at the mouth as it rampaged through across town, threatening both citizens and vehicles. The bull’s escape also lead it through a local apartment complex, several neighborhoods and Purcell Park.

Members of Citizens for Animal Welfare filled the City Council meeting over the current policies of the Rockingham-Harrisonburg SPCA (no relation to the ASPCA); an organization that seems to be leading all the area animal shelters in the number of animals they kill, despite dramatic increases in their government funding.
Statistics from the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services show that in 2008 the shelter killed 65-percent of all animals under it’s care. In 2004, 76-percent of all animals were killed. To put this in perspective, the Charlottesville SPCA had a kill rate of 12-percent, 53-percent less than the RHSPCA.
The CFAW members are requesting to take over the duties and fund of the RHSPCA and work in conjunction with other local and regional animal welfare organizations in order to drastically reduce the area’s kill rate through a new no-kill shelter. One member of the CFAW cited the RHSPCA’s lack of cooperation with other organizations as a major factor contributing to the number of pets that have to be euthanized. The RHSPCA was offered and has decline free spay and neuter services, software to computerize their record keeping and offers by to house many of their animals.
In a Daily News Record editorial, the Director a board member of the RHSPCA claimed, “the real reason animals die at RHSPCA: the people who are not being responsible pet owners!”

The Harrisonburg Police Department has issued written warnings to residents that have snow-covered sidewalks. Those residents that don’t comply will be cited and face fines to the tune of $200. This post would probably be longer if I actually had a sidewalk outside my house and was more upset about the latest example of The Man Keeping us Down. I guess eventually somebody will get hurt by slipping on ice or have a heart attack and file a lawsuit. They will probably get a nice little settlement and the city will stop the madness.
