When I have too much free time on my hands, I like to browse the Daily News Record website.  I don’t read many of the articles, I just look for the most popular ones and read the comments.  This is good, cheap fun…like watching reality shows on VH1, it’s one of those things that makes you feel like a better person by comparison.  Last week’s article about a toddler in Stanley who was run over by a woman in SUV incited such a riot that they shut down commenting due to policy violations before noon!

Topics likely to start a flame war:

1. Anything involving gangs or drugs, especially if there’s a Hispanic-sounding name mentioned in the article
2. Backyard chickens.  This one attracts commenters from all over the country!
3. Heritage Oaks Golf Course, particularly since the DNR always finds a way to mention that this public course is not profitable, even when the topic is the course’s First Tee program.

The find people at harrisonburgnow.com finally gave me my own account, that way if I manage to offend anyone that is bored enough to look at this mediocre website, they can blame it on me and not them. Seriously aren’t their better websites with this kind of information on it? How hard is it to come up with an original idea for a website. My friend that made this site is all code and no vision. How about a site that is kind of like myspace but for the area, ok maybe thats not original either, of course I didn’t waste countless hours designing this one.

I’m going to see how long it takes for this post to be removed.
